Mosquito Control
Overview
The Regional District's mosquito control program has been in place since 1974. From March to September each year, between 300 and 350 properties are checked for mosquito larva in Areas "A", "B", "C", "D", "F", "G", "H" and "I" as well as Osoyoos, Oliver, Penticton, and Summerland.
Regional District technicians check stagnant (still) water bodies for mosquito larvae as well as for the predators that eat the larvae. Once each larval/predator monitoring is complete, larviciding sprays are applied where required.
In accordance with B.C. Ministry of Environment habitat guidelines, the RDOS uses Vectobac 200G, a 'non-toxic', 'organic' pesticide to treat for mosquito larva.
The Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen has worked to implement integrated pest management (IPM) principles and has developed appropriate procedures to ensure the best control measures possible. For more information, please click on the links below.
