Electoral Area "G" - Agriculture Zone
In response to concerns raised by the local Keremeos / Hedley community regarding the number of dwelling units being constructed on agricultural properties, the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen investigated the potential expansion of land use planning in Electoral Area ‘G’.
At its meeting of April 5, 2012, the Planning and Development (P&D) Committee of the Regional District Board resolved to remove the preperation of an Agriculture Zone for Electoral Area 'G' as a strategic project.
Proposed Zoning Regulations
The concerns that had been raised included the conversion of buildings and structures on agricultural properties for the rental accommodation of persons not associated with the operation of the farm.
New zoning regulations that would regulate the number of dwelling units permitted on a parcel of land in the ALR were proposed and would have limited the number and size of dwellings as follows:
Parcel Area |No. of Dwellings |
Less than 8.0 ha |1 |
8.0 ha to 19.9 ha |2 |
Greater than 20.0 ha |3 |
Floor Area |
Restrictions |
First Dwelling | N/A |
Second Dwelling | 140 square meters |
Third Dwelling | 70 square meters |
Public Open House - April 27, 2010
A Public Open House was held on October 27, 2010, in order to provide residents an opportunity to discuss the proposed zoning regulations with their Electoral Area ‘G’ Director, and to ask questions of APC members and RDOS staff in relation to the proposal.
