Elementary school students participate in Local Government Awareness Week
News ArticleINFORMATION RELEASE
In recognition of Local Government Awareness Week (LGAW), May 12 to 18, 2024, the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) visited elementary school students in Electoral Area “E” (Naramata) and Electoral Area “D” (Okanagan Falls).
On Tuesday, May 14, 2024, Adrienne Fedrigo, Electoral Area “E” Director and RDOS staff met with students at Naramata Elementary School. Director Fedrigo discussed her role as an elected official and answered questions from the students. “It was nice speaking with students about local government’s role in the community,” said Director Fedrigo. “As they start to think about what they want to do later in life, students may not always think about municipal work or being an elected official so it was a great opportunity to connect.”
On Thursday, May 16, 2024, Matt Taylor, Electoral Area “D” Director and RDOS staff visited students at Okanagan Falls Elementary School. The students have been learning about how government decisions are made. “It was a lot of fun, and the students had great questions,” said Director Taylor. “These engagements are valuable to discuss how local governments serve communities and I enjoyed the opportunity very much.”
