EOC Update: 2021 wildfire thank you video | helping each other

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen Emergency Operations Centre (RDOS EOC) has uploaded a new video to the RDOS YouTube channel. The video was created to acknowledge and thank everyone involved in the 2021 wildfire season including:

  • Firefighters
  • Search and Rescue
  • Emergency Support Services (ESS)
  • RCMP
  • First Nations Health Authority
  • Interior Health, BC Emergency Health Services and health partners
  • Emergency Operations personnel from Indigenous communities, incorporated municipalities and the Regional District

“On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to thank everyone who provided their support and expertise during the 2021 wildfire season,” says newly-elected RDOS Chair Mark Pendergraft. “Your dedication and commitment to service are greatly appreciated.”

The RDOS EOC is located in the area of sn'pintktn within the traditional, unceded territory of the syilx people in the Okanagan Nation. Following the 2021 wildfire season, knowledge and language keepers from the Okanagan Nation shared a word with responders, which captured the spirit of cooperation and means helping each other: kn’kn’xtwix (kin-kin-i-twew-h )

There were 76 wildfires burning within the Regional District in 2021, resulting in Evacuation Alerts and Orders for hundreds of families. The EOC would like to thank the more than 750 responders from within the region.
