Pioneer Park upgrades continue in Electoral Area “I” (Kaleden)

News Article

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) is continuing work at Pioneer Park (201 Ponderosa Avenue) in the community of Kaleden in Electoral Area “I”. Recently completed enhancements and upgrades in the southern area of the park include the installation of a new irrigation system and sod/turf, and seeding of certain areas. To ensure the success of the sod and seed over the next few weeks, please avoid areas that are cordoned off or have been recently seeded.

Phase I of the Pioneer Park Enhancement project was completed recently. Work on the lakeshore area included removing non-native soil material to create a more user-friendly and natural shoreline. Erosion protection structures were installed to prevent wave action from adversely affecting the lakeshore.

Phase II of the project, scheduled for fall 2024, will include strategic planting of native riparian shrubs and trees and the addition of a new sports court.

Park users can expect a 'project-free' summer at Pioneer Park before work on a new sports court (tennis/pickeball) begins, which is budget-dependent.
